Making Strides: And That’s A Wrap…

I’d like to thank EVERYONE for your support over the last few months throughout the Well City Challenge.

I entered this process with an idea that I’ve been thinking about for almost a decade and in about 6 months, was able to turn it into a service.

Strides is not just about running laps, doing squats, or crossing finish lines.

It’s about transforming neighborhoods and utilizing public spaces. It’s about giving people the opportunity to build relationships and make new connections. It’s about empowering and educating people to protect themselves against predatory fitness and nutrition companies.

We will continue to approach running and fitness with a lens that recognizes that health outcomes are not solely determined by individual behavior but by other factors including socioeconomic status, race, and environment. We will use our voices to advocate for policy changes that contribute to health inequities and chronic conditions that plague our communities.

So, what’s next for Strides? A LOT. Kiera and I will spend the next few weeks planning and meeting with key stakeholders. As always, we’ll keep you updated along the way.

If all goes according to plan, membership sales will open in mid-August for a September launch focusing on the 5K and 8K distances.

If you’d like to get involved, there are two ways you can help.

Financially: We’re not looking for donations as this is a for-profit entity BUT if you truly believe in this idea, purchase a digital or hybrid membership when we launch sales in August. This will help cover the costs of coaches, equipment, administration fees, and more.

Spread the Word: Tell other people about Strides. Share our blog posts, website, and social channels when we launch next month.

Thanks again for your support!

If you haven’t done so already, please check out the other teams that participated in the Well City Challenge: @getfreshdaily, @the.heart.to.heal @letstalkphillyeec, and the grand prize winner, @_heyauntie. It’s been an honor to work with these amazing leaders and I can’t wait to follow along their journeys.
